You are working for a company within the European Union but were charged VAT. Theoretically, this should not happen unless you are also based in Luxembourg.
First of all, we advise you to first take a look at the article "My VAT Number is not recognised". We will now explore the various reasons which could explain why you were charged VAT.
You have not entered a VAT number during the order process. In this case, it's normal for us to charge VAT. The only way we can remove VAT is by checking your VAT number through VIES. If you haven't entered a proper VAT number, it's thus normal that you were charged VAT.
You made a mistake when typing in your VAT number. If that's the case, it's also normal that you have been charged VAT. If the number typed in was wrong, VIES has not been able to identify it correctly.
You typed in your number properly but VIES was down while you did it. Our system was therefore unable to check whether your number is valid and charged you VAT. This is a really unusual situation but if it ever happens to you, we will be happy to help. Just fill in our contact form.
